Xiu Xiu, the Sent Down Girl (1999)
This was a really sad movie… Not a good one to watch when I’m trying to study for a final… But anyway, it was pretty good, even though some of the sex stuff was rather unecessary and ruins the artistic beauty of it.
The movie took place during the 1970s when the “educated youth” in China were sent “up to the mountains and down to the villages” to experience life and build the economy. This was the time my parents grew up in. My mom missed it only by a few months since by the time she turned 16 the movement was already over. My dad had some pretty amazing stories to tell about it, and it was fascinating to listen to some of them. I guess it’s lucky that they actually lived through all that unlike some people. Or else where would I be? 🙂
It’s really sad that my parents don’t want to write down their stories. since they are such great storytellers and love literature. I wish I could write down the stories of those around me, since they are really amazing, but I don’t think I can do them justice. But it’s probably better for me to write them down rather than let them be forgotten with time.
I just finished my second to last final. Just one more on Thursday so I hope I’ll study some instead of watch Japanese drama all day 🙂
Oh yeah, we lost our game 11 to 20, but it was a good effort. Hey, we only started practicing last week! I have a new target now: #6, Jennifer. Dunno anything about her, only that she’s really good and basically stopped me from doing anything offensively. Nothing personal against her, but I hope I get to play her again next year so I can beat her!!!
