The Pink Bunny and Other Pink Things

After a month I finally discovered a secret VPN for my work computer. It’s pretty unreliable for Facebook, but at least I can go back to my normal routine of perusing through Feedly every morning. And this morning, it is not without sadness that I read this piece of sad news via SFist — the pink bunny at Haight and Laguna will be demolished to make way for some housing development project.

Not that I don’t think SF needs more housing developments to put some kind of relief towards the skyrocketing rent prices (Disclaimer: I have not actually researched whether housing developments help relieve rent prices). I am just saddened to think that in the two years of living in SF, I’ve driven by the pink bunny at least a dozen times, and always thought to myself, next time I shall walk here to take a picture of it because it’s really cool. Yet I never made the effort to do so, and now, the pink bunny will forever disappear from the messy yet eccentrically (wow that is actually a word!) beautiful wonderfulness of the Haight before I have a chance to memorialize it with my Instagram. Yes, there are a million other photos of the pink bunny on Instagram, but none would have been like mine, since none would come with the memory of me standing on that street corner being touristy and finding just the perfect angle and the right lighting for this most important bunny portrait.

Oh, woe is me.

So the lesson from that, my dears, is don’t take things for granted. Stop the car and park it illegally for 5 seconds to take that perfect picture of the pink bunny before someone decides to demolish it. Stop rushing through life and pause to enjoy the little things before the little things become luxuries you can no longer obtain.

In other news, I got pink roses from a mystery person for Chinese Valentine’s Day! [Insert Geico squealing pig emoticon for emphasis] This person also thinks I’m awesome! [Insert WIN baby meme for emphasis] He/She must not know me too well yet if he/she thinks I like pink and that I’m awesome. But I definitely think he/she is awesome for making my day 🙂 Thank you and (even if I don’t celebrate it) happy v-day to you too!
